Genre itself can have many definitions however the definition that mostly everyone knows it for is a style or category of art, music, or literature.
Teen films are films aimed specifically at teens. I think these are good as the production companies already know majority of teens love to watch films so by them aiming movies at teens will get their film even more reception.
Some of the main scenarios in teen films are conflict within relationships, conflict with an older generation (as we see in kidulthood), romance and sexually active.
when the production company makes a film aimed at teens they look at Altman's theory which is the Semantic and Syntactic way. Teens watch teen dramas because it is set up in a syntactic way (the stories the film tells) they want to sympathies with the characters they see.
