Looking back at the skills I had when I made the preliminary film and to the film I made now I can honestly say my skills have improved majorly. Before when I made the prelim film I had a lack of skills but I lied to myself saying that I could easily make a film. It wasn't even like how i expected. i struggled to make a prelim film. I thought that i knew it all when i really didn't. when my teacher went through all the different types of shots I could honestly say i was shocked. There were so many.

We first stated of with a story board I thought that this would be the quickest part so me and my whole group rushed it because we thought it wasn't so important. However it was apparently it helps you as you are videoing. So the one that we rushed had to get scrapped and we had to start again adding extra detail. We then had to think of a location we chose to do it in the college which was a silly idea as nearly everyone in my class was doing it inside the college. talk about lac of creativity. The filming process was the longest. I thought that you could just go out there record whatever u want and just add them together during the editing process. but it wasn't like that we had to follow the story board and think about different types of shots. close ups, long shots, mid shots, we had to watch out for the 180 rule:

This is what we learned you can only stay on one side of people when they are having a conversation. Fortunately we didn't have to cross this because there were not many if any conversations like this is our film.
However in our proper title sequence we had more experience with editing and filming as we went through specific things in lesson. Like how to edit proper how to do different types of shots. which equipment to use e.g a tripod to get a still shot. In our prelim we did not use a tripod at all we did it free hand this made our film come out shaky and was harder to edit. Whereas in our title sequence we did use a tripod and a fig rig to give us still shots whilst walking. This was extremely useful because if we didn't have it our scenes would be shaky making it look more like a music video than an actually film opening

This is me showing how I used motion to create a simple title sequence for my film. I think that motion was easily accessible and very easy for me to use.

I also tried to use garage band to make a sound to put over the title sequence however I did not like the sounds that were created using garage band. They didn't go with my title sequence so we decided to get one of youtube. Also we used a digital camera to record our title sequence. I think that this was easy to use and it made our video come out good which i am very pleased with.

TEEN MOVIES

The wider audience for teen movies are broad and this is due to many things. Teens can make other people want to watch a film as much as they don't want to. They have the ability to make a movie sound more interesting is. This could happen through social networks. Teens on social-networks make information spread in the blink of an eye. But its not only teens on social networks anybody any age can use social media. Lets use twitter for an example. There are millions of people using twitter today, if a film had a new release, the information on that movie would spread so fast and come up on everyones timeline. Full of teens saying very positive things about the movie. This may encourage people of many ages to go out and watch the film due to what has been said about the movie. But this could happen in a negative way. Teens could say such vile things about a movie which could deter the audience. This is why teen movies have a wide fan base.

YOU GOV PROFILES

REFLECTION - FILMING SESSION 3

Filming session 3
Today was our penultimate day of filming! we filmed our beginning scene where the two are arguing in the living room. We were hoping that this would be our final filming session so that we could start editing and putting our scenes together, we re filmed the scene of me hiding in the room because I had changed my hair and it would've looked weird if we didn't re film those scenes, however it worked out in a good way because it made the flashback look realistic as my hair was different.
We hope we can start editing very soon and we are very excited about it

REFLECTION - FILMING SESSION 2

Filming Session 2
The main aim of today was to shoot the park scene and the scene where tyrique is banging behind the door. There was a bit of miscommunication in our group so we were a bit confused about where we were meeting. However overall filming went extremely good, when shooting in the park we had a few difficulties with lighting as it was quite a sunny day and we were planning to use a top light, however we found that the top light wasn't needed and we used natural light instead, overall we were filming In the park for about an hour before we proceeded to go Inside tyriques house as it was about -2 degrees and it was too cold for us to film in.
We ended up filming in tyriques house for about 45 minutes as it was quite a quick shot that we ended up doing.

In the next filming session we aim to bring everything to a close and hopefully it will be our final filming session.

REFLECTION POST 1 -FILMING SESSION 1

First Filming Experience

Today was the first day group 3 explored the Filming world. The filming goal today was to get the room scene over and done with. As a group we went over to tyrique a house to film the scene behind the door where she is hiding from her boyfriend. We had a few technical issues with the lighting in the room and the angles as we were in a confined space, however we had to work around it and initially I took up around 40 minutes to master moving the camera around without the room being too dark or the lighting being off.

We filmed the majority of the beginning scenes, I find it particularly challenging with acting ad the kind of film we are doing is quite controversial and I have to show a lot of emotion in my face. we all took turns to take charge of filming but the main two camera men were harjeet and obed.

In our next filming session we would like to get more done in the time frame that we have.

How to create titles in motion.

When you open up motion you will be welcomed with these options. We started with a template as it gives us something to start of with.

Then there will be a range of templates from you to choose from. You can also press them for a preview.

Finally once you've chosen your template you would be able to change the text to what you want.

Blogging health check 3:

Hi Harjeet It's good to see you are keeping a production diary and interesting to read your reflections. I would say what you need to do is to try and come up with solutions. Part of what we are trying to do with encouraging you to blog so much, is to encourage you to plan properly. What exactly do you want to achieve in your next filming session? What do you need to do to make sure this happens? Try and be really clear about this and put it down in a blog entry. Your blog entries are currently a little on the brief side - try and add some photos of some video or use other types of ICT (Prezis, emaze etc) to liven them up a bit. Also, after each session, you could write a short individual note on exactly what you did. Also, you could post re. skills development - what exactly have you learnt so far? How have your skills dveloped? You can write all this up on the blog. Try and get your post count up also - I'd like you to be in the mid-30s in terms of post count, at a minimum by now. Dan

Blogging health check 2

Hi Glad to see you are all out filming. Can you make sure that you blog a Production Diary (group entry). Include some photos or stills from the shoot, give an account of where you went, what you did and what footage you shot. You should also review your footage before the next lesson and say what was good, what didn’t work, and explain how this affects your future plans – update your production schedule in light of this. The blog should now function as an ongoing record of your work. Dan

Feedback from First Rough Cut

The feedback we got from dan on our first rough cut was that, it was a good attempt for the first rough cut,  however he said that we had a lot to improve on, he told us that there were a lot of shots that really didn't need to be there and that we should get rid off in order to make the title sequence look more realistic. He said in our second rough cut we should include more close ups in order to show emotion in each other's faces so it could have a greater effect on our title sequence and the audience. He also mentioned adding some foley sounds and a prominent soundtrack to emphasise emotion in our title sequence.

He also told us that the title credits were not clear enough, and to make things a bit easier we should use motion instead of doing them on Final Cut Pro (our initial idea). Some of e titles covered some actors faces so we were told to adjust the frame on Final Cut Pro.

- To improve my work i will redo the title credits and make sure that they are organised and are placed on the frame so that no crucial bits are missing.
- film more close ups to emphasise emotion
- remove any irrelevant shots that may have been seen.

BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK 3

Blogging health check 3

Hi Seun

Just in case you haven't seen it on promonitor, here is your feedback from blogging health check 3 which was done over half term.

You have added some work on planning and reflected on the influence of real media texts. However, you still need some more work on audiences and institutions. You could use YouGov profiler to look at the audience for teen films (and Murdered by my Boyfriend) and compare them to your target audience. You have included a post on the institution that has produced your film but you need to elaborate on this. Are Road Records an independent or mainstream production company? How will this affect your title sequence?
You also must post more documentation of the filming and editing process with reflections and photographs. What did you film on each day? Did it go well or was there anything you needed to reshoot?

Blogging Health Check 2
Hi Seun

Here is your feedback for blogging health check 2. You should write a blog post reflecting on this and how you are going to improve.

“I’ve seen you putting a lot of effort into solidifying your film idea but you need to make sure that you are explicit about these developments on your blog to get the marks. Write a blog post on your new idea and how this developed through group discussion and feedback from the pitch.

When you film you need to make sure that you continue to do this. Post targets for a filming session for what you want to achieve, plan your route to the location or check the weather report. Then after filming reflect on whether you achieved this and if you changed anything.

You could also look at the teen films that are most similar to your idea to back up your decision. You could then use YouGov profiler to look at the audience for these films and compare them to your target audience, as you don’t have any audience work in your research. You also need some more work on institutions. Write a post on whether your film is being made by a mainstream or independent production company and how this will affect the title sequence.”

Phoebe has clearly shown me where I need to improve In order to make my blog look good, I will start working on his ASAP

BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK 1

Blogging health check 1

Here is your feedback for your first blogging health check. It will be on promonitor along with your mark shortly. You will need to post a reflection on this feedback for blog post 21.

Your work is good but there needs to be more of it! You have researched into Cabin in the Woods and Man of Steel in good detail but you need to look at other similar products. Think about the types of title sequence, institutions (mainstream or independent), target audiences and the macro and micro features of the subgenres of teen films.
You need to include work on the planning of your remake and evaluate this process. You will need to document the planning of your title sequence in detail.
You also need to consider how you are presenting your work and how you can use ICT to help you do this.

Phoebe has giving me extremely convenient advice and allowed me to see where I need to change certain habits and how to improve my blogging skills, I will try my best to adapt to all the criticisms and carry on with the good work.

blogging health check

It's good to see you are keeping a production diary and interesting to read your reflections - but try and be more precise and detailed. Part of what we are trying to do with encouraging you to blog so much, is to encourage you to plan properly. What exactly do you want to achieve in your next filming session? What do you need to do to make sure this happens? Try and be really clear about this and put it down in a blog entry. Try and say exactly what went wrong, if it didn't go the way you wanted? Lighting? A lack of footage? Shaky camera? The closer you can identify what exactly has happened the easier it will be to correct it - you should try and finish your posts with a solution to any problems you mentioned. If you don't know, come and see teachers/technicians when you are back in college and discuss it with us. You can record and blog your feedback.

Try and get your post count up also - I'd like you to see if you can get to 40 soon. As you are going away and won't be as connected with the process, it's important you get as much done as you can right now.

Final Editing

Editing the final parts of our title sequence I must say was the most challenging for me as we had to try and fit certain shots together to show emotion as it is quite a touchy subject, even though we are not being marked on our acting, if the acting was top notch it would an effect on the whole title sequence. finding a soundtrack and putting a soundtrack on our title sequence was also particularly challenging for me as we had to find an instrumental that was not too sad but also not too jumpy to fit with the title sequence. We realized that music with piano sounds and mellow sounds would be the most appropriate for our title sequence and editing the music so the music fades out in the end. As a group we made a huge effort to make our title sequence look realistic as we were told that the story line we chose was too complicated for us to handle, however we took all our criticisms and turned them into only positive things and the outcome was amazing.

Final Story Line

A few changes have were made in the end of our story line. It Will first start off as the male character in the living room looking through his female partners Facebook messages, we then see the female in the kitchen cooking. It then shows the male confronting the female about the messages seen on her Facebook, she tells her partner that she does not know who the messages are from and she doesn't reply, we then see the male character getting angry and throwing a tantrum,. grabbing her arm as she tries to walk away. She runs off in a panic and hides in her bedroom behind the door when we proceed to a flashback of the times that they first met. They look happy with each other and these were times when the relationship was good and healthy. We then return back to the present and see her crying and hesitating to call the police. at this point the male character is banging on the door and gaining anger, we see her dial 999 and that's where the scene fades into the main title of the film.

The youth in this film are shown to be reckless and antisocial young people who commit crimes such as petty theft and serious violence. Blog post-12

The similarities with High school&Youth drama film are:

  • Both of them end with the title of who the film was written and/or directed by.
  • Also both the title sequences start with a blank screen with some text on it then move to moving images.

The differences with High school&Youth drama film are:

  • In a High school drama the title sequence is in most cases longer than others, this is usually because High school drama's in most cases it has more casts and more people producing it.
  • Linking back to the bullet point above High school dramas are mainly mainstream production and Youth drama's are usually independent films. Ive noticed High school dramas have a more entertaining side whereas youth dramas are more serious and most likely to be based on real live events.

19 - How to create soundtracks in garageband

We got told how to make sounds using garage band I didn't really find this helpful as I already know how to use garage band from past experiences

I got some information on how to use garage band of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF0yEOgCyfc

You open up garage band and this should be the first screen that comes up, you then select what you would want whether a loop, piano a movie or even just your voice and press choose. However if  you want to start from scratch just double click new project. We are going to use move for our project as we are creating a title sequence.

40 - Revisions to pitch

We have changed our whole title sequence to an abusive relationship

We have changed the font and animations that we will be using

Instead of us actually speaking in our film as we agreed on before we have chosen to mute the speech and use music as this will maximize the tension between the characters.

We will demonstrate domestic abuse as the door is being banged on and the girl is sitting behind the door panicking

We will also demonstrate a flashback to goodtimes where the male and female first met.

We completed our storyboard to give us a rough copy of what we should be filming exactly.

Filming Journey

I am excited to be filming, I think that this is the most exciting part of the course. I feel that this is a perfect time to show my filming skills of, as I had recently been filming music videos.
-----------------------------

I was wrong, filming a movie was nothing like filming a music video. Music videos are easy and so quick to film. With a film you have to take on so many precautions. For example you have to make sure that you get so many different type of shots. You have to rerecord some certain parts in order for them to look good. it took up more than 8 hours to record this little title sequence, just imagine a full time blockbuster.

Editing Journey

Finally we are on our Editing Journey, with a great use of self esteem and team work we have managed to come up with a good enough title sequence that we are proud of. After all the difficulties, trials and tribulations, I can proudly say that I am glad on how our editing is going on. At first when we were first putting the clips together we thought it was over as we were not going to complete the editing. This was because we we rent agreeing on certain things. But now we just come to a final conclusion before changing anything so there is no confusions.

Rough Cut
