Target audiences research

What is a audience?

A group of spectators or listeners that have come together at a public event.

How do we define target audience?

A particular group of people that are being aimed at by a specific product or service.

It is useful for films to have a target audience for many reasons for example it tells you what kind of people are more likely to watch the movie, it could help with the pre-production of the film and gives the ability to relate and engage with the film opening.

You can understand your target audience through:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Class
  • Ethnic group
  • Interests
  • Uses&Gratifications
  • Common interests

Teen dramas

  • The primary audience for teen dramas 13-19 years old.
  • Their secondary audience could be for people at the age 20-30 possibly higher this is as the product or in this case film is not directly directed at this age group but maybe a family member or friend gave them a interest to watch the film or see the perspective of what teens go through rather than what the elderly assume. Teen dramas are for both boys and girls to show teenage issues for example cyber bullying, peer pressure, issues with friends or family members, teenage pregnancy, drug dealing and drug intake, relationships, social awareness and much more. Teen dramas sometimes teach positive morals and show how teenage issues as listed above can be overcome and gives teens something to talk about as they are all able to relate.
