Editing Journey
- We are finally on our Editing
Journey, with determination and team work we have managed to get through 3/4 of
our editing in a small amount of time. Whilst editing, we found that many
crucial angles of filming were missing. however this did not come as a downfall
to us, we took criticism and adapted it in a positive way. We realized that
editing may not be as easy as we initially thought and have been on a
rollercoaster journey. We are using final cut Pro to edit our title sequence,
which is good very convenient place to edit as it makes things a lot more
simple than it was before.
POV of samanthas Role
Samantha's role is a particular challenging role to play as
it is quite a sensitive and emotional role. It is particularly challenging to
keep a straight face yet full of emotion. Our group has to be careful when
acting because although we are not getting marked on that, the scenario we have
chosen requires our acting to be on point as if it isn't good it could
potentially affect the way the film is presented. Samantha goes through ups and
downs in her long term young relationship with "Michael" her
boyfriend since the age of 14, who she met in school. The idea of domestic
abuse is very sensitive and we do not want the title sequence to come across as
too harsh, so we are going to give off the idea that domestic abuse is
occurring but no violence is actually seen.
Kidulthood Analysis
-In the kidulthood title sequence, the use of slow motion is
used frequently throughout the scene, whilst an eery soundtrack is played in
the background. this relates to the story line of the film as it is quite a
mysterious and enigmatic film. It is evident that it is a youth drama however
has aspects of a high school drama, in the title sequence it is filmed in a
school environment. They show the different social groups within the first
minute of the title sequence which is the "cool" boys, and the less
cool boys and the "popular" girls. they use colloquial language when
they are speaking meaning that these characters are teenagers. The use of
mid-shots is very frequent throughout the title sequence.
Title Seuqence Idea
In the beginning of our title sequence it shows the two main
characters (a male and a female) arguing in a car. Many different angles will
be shot of the car and the scene inside the car. the female character
"provokes" the male character to the point where he grabs her arm.
(close up). She then makes a run for it out of the car and into the house with
the male close behind. whilst this whole chase is going on it will be in slow
motion. You then see the female character behind a bedroom door holding the door closed with
fear whilst the male character is banging
and shouting from the other side. She slides down the door and sits on
the floor and puts her head in her knees. A flashback is then seen of when the
male and female character first meet, ,when he approached her, and when they
are out together. A scene is then seen of the female dialling 999.
Insitution that will produce our film
The institution that will produce our film is called Road
Records Production company. this was made up however we all found that the name
is catchy and somehow relates to the film as well. Our distribution company is
Anchor Bay, the same distributors of Honey Trap , as we have the same
demographic it would make sense to use the same distributing company to attract
the same target audience.
Reflection - Filming experience 2
Filming Session 2
The main aim of today was to shoot the scene in the park where Seun and Tyrique first met (flashback) also where Tyrique is banging behind the door. There was a misunderstanding our group so we were unaware about where we were meeting (Tyriques house)
The filming its self went good as I was the cameraman i took control over the types of shots we should do and what angles. As we were filming outside in the sun we thought there was no use for the camera light so we scrapped that untill we went into Tyriques house. Thats where the use of the Light came in use as it enabled us to see what we were filming it also made our clips brighter and for some reason changed the quality (Making it good)
We filmed Inside Tyriques house more than outside and I think that this is a good thing
In the next filming session we aim to finalize and wrap our film ready to edit r.

Final Project In The Making (Editing)
At this point of editing as a group we have imported our clips of our short film onto 'Final Cut Pro' and we are just reviewing the what we have filmed and deciding how to present it as best as possible with effective shot angles; special effects to create an intend atmosphere to go with the genre and the story line and also transitions that ail go well and fit in with the mood that is being created to intrigue the audience watching.
Wake up call...
Todays lesson was a wake up call for me as I was told we had to complete our title sequence by next Friday. This was quite worrying at first but as the lesson progressed I could see our title sequence coming together. Our media teacher gave us feedback on how we've done so far which is on a separate blog, but in a nutshell the comment were generally good but there was space for improvement. We're taking all the comments on board and try make all the changes.

Reflection - Filming Experience 1
First Filming Experience
When we first started filming we thought it would be easy but it wasn't we tried to video at Tyriques house but us as a group overall were confused especially me and this was not because I wasn't listening to what they were saying it is because the instructions and methods as a group were not clear enough for me. when we eventually got to Tyriques after a long time we didn't really record anything which was quiet upsetting

In our next filming session I would prefer to know what were going in for and get way more work done. Work rate was poor

GarageBand sounds-foley sounds
I had a listen at some foley sounds that could potentially fit in well with our title sequence for example theres a scene when a character is being chased and I found the sound "footsteps hard concrete run" as the sound is associated with running. After the running scene the male and female character are on each side of the door, the male character trying to force his way through, on that note we could use "Door 15" as it sounds like the door banging.
34 - Production Schedule
We care going to start Filming on 29th January and we will continue throughout the following lessons: 2nd February and 5th February. However this is not enough time to do all of our recordings, so we will have to make time during the week and film more on the weekend, 7th February
Initial Ideas
Initial ideas
We had planned to do a youth drama as we felt we could relate to the theme and so will have many ideas. Though our thoughts were very limited and superficial.

We felt as if kidulthood may have been our 'fairy god mother of media'. This film had a major impact on the work that we are producing, this is because youth drama is the genre that we focus on, in this film they are a bunch of teenagers facing real life, serious situations which is very similar to what we are doing. The realistic aspects of life that happen in this film reminded us that young people go through some of the things that older people may go through as well such as domestic violence and death.
28. - Planning 3 Media Texts
KIDULTHOOD
Kidulthood is an influence because it shows how young people behaved. We could use this to embrace our characters we are playing. This is also a youth drama and we are doing a youth drama this would make us get various ideas.
MURDERED BY MY BOYFRIEND
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3qkx6kUj0E
I would take so many ideas from this film because this links so much to our title sequence that we are creating. They have some really emotional and deep scenes in this we can use this to link it to our film. We could see how the characters are acting and do the same. This would help us improve on our performance and beginner actors.
What is a title sequence?
-
A title sequence is the method by which films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilising conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of superimposed text.Slowly, title sequences evolved to become more elaborate pieces of film. The advent of television was a pivotal moment for title design because it forced the major film studios to invest in making cinema more attractive in order to win back a diminishing audience. The "cast of thousands" epics shot on various patent widescreen formats were a direct response to television's successful invasion of the leisure marketplace. Part of cinema's new prestigious and expansive quality were orchestral overtures before the curtains opened and long title sequences — all designed to convey a sense of gravitas it was hoped television would be unable to compete with. As cinema's title sequences grew longer and more elaborate, the involvement of graphic design luminaries such as Saul Bass and Maurice Binder became more common. The title sequence for Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest is generally cited as the first to feature extended use of kinetic typography.[2] This innovation, in turn, influenced the 1960s television predilection for title design, resulting in the creation of strong graphics-led sequences for many television shows. Since then, the mediums of film and television have engaged in a kind of push and pull behavior, inspiring and spurring each other in different directions.
Media Texts that inspired me
The first text that inspired me was the documentary based on
a true story called "murdered by my boyfriend", this inspired me to
do a title sequence based around the storyline about domestic violence. this is
the main film that influenced me as it had a popular reaction to it and was
viewed by many people meaning some may be able to empathise with this type of
story line as it is common throughout the whole world. The film is about a
young lady who meets a man and almost immediately falls head over heels for
him. They end up having a daughter together until things change for the worst.
He ends up showing signs of abuse towards her which quickly escalates into him
physically hitting her on one occasion, going to her workplace and head-butting
her in front of all her colleagues, she files for a restraining order against
him, but easily falls back in love with him, as he is known to be a
manipulator, the police fail to help her on numerous occasions, and the abuse
only gets worse resulting in her unfortunate death.
February 2nd Filming
Today we will be filming the scenes of the "good times" between the male and female character. This will include when they first meet each other, them together in the park, and them walking together in the street. This will be filmed near the college in the park and other surrounding areas of the college, we aim to have finished 3/4 of the filming by the end of the day and be completely finished by the end of the week. We may take a camera over the weekend if necessary and if filming isn't finished to film the finishing shots, and plan to stat editing on monday 9th February.
Filming so far...
In my head I expected the filming to be quick and easy, getting all the shots we needed to be filmed and put them al together. But it's been harder than I thought getting so many different shots for each scene. Also we have to use our free time to do our filming for example this saturday we re going to meet up to complete all our filming so on Monday 9th we'll be ready to start getting all our scenes together. Deleting any unnecessary scenes and putting the ones that are actually needed together. One reason for the filming getting harder is because our idea has been changed more than 2 times meaning we were behind making it much harder for us. Despite the idea of being behind and the slight negativity in our group we're determined to get all our work finished to a high standard and good quality.
Summarise how to create garage band tracks
We were given a short tutorial on how to use Garageband to create soundtracks within lesson. It was helpful and taught us how to use Garageband for a series of different sounds; diegetic, non-diegetic and overall, soundtracks.
Non-diegetic sounds will also be useful, just to ensure that the scenes aren't boring and to accompany them with some sound, if necessary, for example if a character gets hit. or falls over on the ground, sounds can be added to emphasizes the situation.
When creating a new project in Garageband, we were given the option of several different sounds and beats and such, a range of instruments and sound effects that you may need to use when creating the mix that you'd like.

By dragging a certain sound onto the blank canvas, this is where your project begins. To extend the sound, you click on the bar and drag it along until you're pleased with the duration. To add additional sounds to create a layered mix, simply drag another instrument down below the initial sound in the canvas - or you may create a loop and select a specific sound, narrowed down specifically, an example of this would be: 'by instruments', 'guitar', 'acoustic guitar', and then select the specific sound within that category that you'd like to use.
How has filming gone so far
Filming for me has gone the opposite way I thought that it would be easy and a smooth finish. However it has been a hard struggle. Mostly because we keep changing things and we are not sticking to the original idea. To make the filming process easier I think that we should listen to what each other say and try and fit it all in.
Summarise how to create titles in motion
Motion is a software used to create animatic sequences. This is done by either selecting a template or starting on a blank screen. With a template you can edit the text, change the colors that have been given to you or even change the standard animation itself. It is used to create and edit motion
graphics, titling for video production and film production, and 2D and 3D compositing for visual effects.
As well as supporting traditional keyframe animation, Motion introduced a system of pre-set 'behaviors' which can be combined to create realistic animations. For instance, the 'throw' behaviour will move an object across the screen. Combined with the 'gravity' behavior, it will simulate a realistic arc of motion. The effects can be tweaked utilizing various parameters, varying the strength of the bounces, the amount of gravity to apply and so on.
